When I was growing up I loved the miniature treasures my mother displays in antique print trays. Now that I’m grown up and have my own, my kids love them as much as I love my mom’s.
We recently relocated the trays. First, the kids carefully removed each item, nesting them in artistic jumbles in shallow boxes. Perfect scenes for an “I Spy” book. Days later, when my friend Kimberley helped me mount the trays in their new location, the kids couldn’t wait to fill them up again.
Later that evening, the three of us spent the loveliest time appreciating the story, memory or sentimentality attached to each treasure as it was carefully placed in its new home.
A few items were absconded by the kids for their own fledgling collections. The tradition continues . . .
